Drawing Factory I

The DRAWING FACTORY selection committee is made up of :

• Sandra Hegedüs, founder of SAM Art Projects and collector
• Florentine Lamarche-Ovize, artist
• Christine Phal, President of DRAWING NOW Art Fair and founder of Drawing Lab Paris
• Juliette Pollet, head of the visual arts collection at the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap)
• Béatrice Salmon, Director, Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap)
• Guillaume Dégé, artist
• Philippe Piguet, art critic and independent curator

The selection of the 30 artists is based on an analysis of the applications received by a selection committee.

Criteria for analysing applications:

+ Proven drawing practice, exploration and experimentation ;

+ Relevance of workshop occupancy for projects ;

+ Candidate's artistic background.

Particular attention will be paid to young artists. Parity will be applied.

The call for applications is aimed at artists on the French scene. This means French or foreign artists who have been living in the country for a sufficient number of years to demonstrate a recognized practice in France.

The results will be announced on March 15, 2021 on the Drawing Lab Paris website as well as on the Cnap website.

Selected artists will have until March 16, 2021 to confirm the studio take, and will then be able to enter the studio from March 22, 2021.

The DRAWING FACTORY is spread over 5 levels. On the first floor, a 250^m2 FOYER has been designed as a communal living space. A place for discussions, conferences and workshops, this common space is the project's meeting point. In addition, 2 workshops on the first floor, accessible by reservation, will enable group work, the use of new techniques or the deployment of larger projects.

The upper 4 levels are dedicated to 30 individual workshops. Ranging in size from 13 to 20^m2, each studio is equipped with a water point, toilet, storage space, lighting and electricity. The studios are unfinished, and can be fitted out by the artists according to their needs. Each studio is locked with an individual key, guaranteeing the safety of works in progress. The DRAWING FACTORY is open to artists 7 days a week (times to be confirmed).

Artists entering the DRAWING FACTORY benefit from Cnap support through payment of :

+ workshop rent set at 180 euros / month;

+ living allowance of 500 euros / month per workshop.

As ambassadors for the promotion and dissemination of contemporary drawing for over 15 years, Christine Phal and Carine Tissot intend to reinforce this commitment by transforming a former hotel in the ^17th arrondissement into 30 studios for artists practicing drawing in all its forms.

The Cnap gives artists free access to a workspace to enable them to pursue current projects or develop new ones and the opportunity to work on them with a monthly grant.

The DRAWING FACTORY is much more than just a place to work, it's a place to meet, experiment and carry out projects. Run by the teams at Drawing Lab Paris, a private art center dedicated to contemporary drawing, the DRAWING FACTORY aims to become the place to be for drawing in Paris in the coming months.

Open to the diversity of drawing practices, this call for applications is aimed at artists living in metropolitan France and overseas who practice, develop and experiment with drawing, including beyond the sheet and pencil. The candidate will have to justify a diploma or proof of a practice already identified. This initiative aims to support artists, allow them to enrich their inspirations, their networks and occupy a workplace in the heart of the capital.
