BABEL.B.O

may - september 2027

Group show: Marie-Sarah Adenis, Cyrielle Gulacsy & Maguelone Vidal

The BABEL.B.O exhibition explores the links between language, sound and image, playing with the limits of perception to give form to the invisible and unspeakable.

Fascinated by the myth of Babel, the three guest artists transform the diversity of languages into a creative force. Each pushes back their medium - words, drawings, sounds - to create correspondences that are sensory and scientific, poetic and political, from the genetic code to the rhythms of speech.

The result of their respective projects is an immersive experience: BABEL.B.O, which unfolds in the Drawing Lab spaces. As archaeologists, the public explores a subterranean space bathed in audio, visual and textual enigmas, revealing a Rosetta stone of the senses for seeing and saying the world differently.

The ¡Viva Villa!

4 Villa n°2

¡Viva Villa! is a network of French artistic residencies abroad, created in 2016 by Casa de Velázquez (Madrid), Villa Kujoyama (Kyoto) and Villa Médicis (Rome) and joined in 2023 by Villa Albertine (United States).

In 2023, ¡Viva Villa! will evolve from a festival to a platform for supporting contemporary creation through two initiatives: a support fund and a professional day. ¡Viva Villa! promotes the work of artists, researchers and creators who have passed through its network of residencies throughout France.

Casa de Velázquez, Villa Albertine, Villa Kujoyama and Villa Médicis have joined forces to extend their commitment to supporting artists, creators and researchers beyond their residency, and to affirm the uniqueness of the French residency model, which is more relevant than ever in supporting creative work.

¡Viva Villa! supports contemporary creation in France through its support fund, which finances artistic projects that include in their programming the work of artists who have completed a residency abroad in one of the four residencies in the ¡Viva Villa! network.

Nestled in the hills above Kyoto, Villa Kujoyama is a multidisciplinary artistic research residency. More than 450 artists have stayed here since its creation in 1992, and have contributed to the recognition of its expertise as a place that sets the standard for intercultural cooperation and Franco-Japanese creation. Villa Kujoyama is fully committed to supporting the mobility of artists, with 4 to 6-month research programs designed to promote a better understanding of practices ranging from fine crafts to digital creation, not forgetting the visual and performing arts. Villa Kujoyama is an artistic establishment belonging to the cultural cooperation network of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. It operates under the auspices of the French Institute of Japan, in coordination with the Institut français, and is supported by the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation, which is its principal patron.
