Drawing Now has always given me a high profile, enabling me to expand my professional network, whether with new collectors, curators, art center directors or exhibition commissioners.
On the other hand, I see the Drawing Lab more as a vital space for deepening my plastic research. It gives me the freedom to take risks by experimenting with new things, provoking accidents and seeing my drawing change.
Between 2002 and 2007, Mathieu Dufois studied fine arts at the Ecole des Beaux-arts du Mans. After graduating, he worked in Assize Courts, creating portraits of defendants for local newspapers. In 2008, when he took part in the Mulhouse Biennial, he won first prize for Young Creation. Since then, his work has been the subject of several solo and group exhibitions in art centers including the CRAC in Sète, the CCCOD in Tours and the Musée des Beaux Arts in Mulhouse. His work has also been shown at various art fairs, including Drawing Now Art Fair, Art Paris and Armory Show.
Since 2010, we’ve been working closely with musician Marc Hurtado, who composes the soundtracks to his films, which lie somewhere between experimental art and animation.
Nominated for the Prix Sciences Po pour l’art contemporain in 2015, he won the Prix Art[ ]Collector in 2018 and will compete for the Drawing Now Art Fair prize in 2021.
Since 2017, he has also been involved in artist residencies, such as at the Pôle International de la Préhistoire (Dordogne), and at the Fayoum Art Center in the Fayoum Oasis, Egypt.
