To coincide with the exhibition FREE JAZZ, Henri Matisse et…, Drawing Lab invites you to an exceptional encounter based on Henri Matisse’s album Jazz.
Anne Coron, a leading specialist in gouache cut-outs and the Jazz album, will talk with Claudine Grammont, head of the graphic arts department and curator of the exhibition, and the artists Isabelle Ferreira and Agnès Thurnauer featured in the show, to decipher this emblematic work, from its first cut-outs to its publication, and its unique creative process.
This talk is an opportunity to delve into the heart of one of Matisse’s masterpieces, which revolutionized the relationship between text and image and turned the book into a veritable space for plastic experimentation.

Find out more about Anne Coron:
Anne Coron is an art historian and author of a doctoral thesis on Henri Matisse’s cut-out gouaches. She has published numerous articles on Matisse in France and abroad. She has just published the correspondence between Matisse and Tériade (June 2025). She worked for ten years at Agence France-Muséums, dedicated to the design of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and is currently a research fellow at the Galerie de l’Institut (Paris).
