Clément Bagot

Clément Bagot

Born January 7, 1972

Lives and works in Montreuil, France

It’s an opportunity to benefit from increased visibility within the art world and its creative ecosystem. The specificity of a place like the drawing lab is to offer new possibilities for experimenting with the medium of “drawing” in all its forms, and to do so with the help of a substantial, dedicated production budget. Each new in-situ exhibition project is an opportunity to explore new directions, confronting a specific space and the constraints that make it up and define it. These require a strong and unique creative approach, which is a challenge in itself.

Clément Bagot conceives his works as aggregates of forms and materials that he arranges and develops from one to the next, like an organism that generates itself through replication and variation of a few primordial constituents. The repetition of a configuration of segments, wave-like graphics or elementary figures will thus determine the logic of the paper’s surface coverage. In the drawings, the eye follows the line and variations in its thickness, the contraction or separation of the lines between them, navigating between a plunge into the infinitely small and a satellite view, constantly shifting its focus between microscopic and macroscopic views. Discovering his works is a long journey, forcing the eye to continually re-evaluate relationships of scale, container and content, interior and exterior. The works have a propensity to generate, link and articulate. They offer themselves to the eye as the foundations of an imaginary world open to free circulation and transformation. From drawing to architecture, from root to organism, they are spaces of transition or reliefs in the making.
