François Réau

Born March 22, 1978 in Niort, France

Lives and works in Paris

“Exhibiting at the Drawing Lab will enable me to propose works that simultaneously reflect my attachment to contemporary drawing, and how I will be able to reflect on the characteristics and challenges of drawing through line, line and linework, to propose pieces that question the limits of this medium. I’ll be mixing lines of different kinds, drawings in space, at the crossroads of three registers: image, space and time.

François Réau studied art at various schools, first at the Ecole Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Poitiers, then at the Ecole d’Arts Appliqués in Poitiers, where he graduated in 2001. His singular, poetic attention to the world is mingled with memories, imbued with reality, imagination and fiction, but also with mystery and spirituality. He notes that “Landscape is always, in a way, the expression of lack; for the space of landscape is also the very space of our own desire”. His work has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions in France and abroad (London, Brussels, Turin, Beijing and Melbourne). A finalist for the “Talents Contemporains” prize at the François Schneider Foundation in Wattwiller in 2015 and 2016, his work has been exhibited at Lille3000, Mons 2015 European Capital of Culture, the Guoyi Art Museum in Beijing, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in 2016, the Musée de l’Hospice Saint Roch in Issoudun, the Kunsthale Charlottenborg in Copenhagen in 2020 and the Domaine de Chaumont sur Loire in 2021.
