Hipkiss’ is the collective pseudonym of the couple, Alpha and Christopher MASON, who have been sharing their life and vision since 1983. Originally from the UK, they have lived and worked in France since 2001, settling in the Gers after five years. The work of Hipkiss is the result of a symbiotic interaction between two accomplices in a thematically structured creative process, evolving through a continuous exchange of ideas and techniques. Both devoted to drawing since their teens, they innovate techniques using graphite mixed with other media. They find inspiration in everyday landscapes – including their land, which is part of the Natura 2000 network – the frontiers of industry and the natural world. Always influenced by their concerns about human impact on the environment and their belief in the benefits of a more egalitarian society, these themes are omnipresent in their work.
Hipkiss is represented in various collections, including: FRAC Occitanie, FRAC Picardie, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, John Michael Kohler Art Center, Cindy Sherman, Rudolf Zwirner, Antoine de Galbert, Kupferstichkabinett and The Whitworth. Four-time winners of the Pollock-Krasner grant.
