Exhibitions at the various editions of the Drawing Now Salon have given me an enriched, multi-faceted view of the French and global drawing scene, a confrontation with multiple universes and new encounters with artists and curators.
The Drawing Now Prize (winner in 2016) invited me to be even more demanding in my personal relationship with drawing and the potential of this exercise.
Jochen Gerner is a French artist born in 1970. He graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Nancy (DNSEP 1993). He draws for publishing and the press (Le 1, Le Monde, The New York Times). Twice winner of the Concours des plus beaux livres français in 2008 and 2009, he also won the École Supérieure de l’Image d’Angoulême prize in 2009 and the Drawing Now prize (Paris) in 2016. He is a member of OuBaPo (Ouvroir de Bande dessinée Potentielle). He frequently takes part in exhibitions in art centers and museums in France and abroad. Jochen Gerner is represented by Galerie Anne Barrault (Paris).
