The “Strings” exhibition at the Drawing Lab in 2017 is one of my significant exhibitions in my artistic career. During the 14 days it took to assemble the exhibition, the Lab was truly a laboratory between the studio and the venue.
Thanks to the collaboration of the Drawing Lab team and curator Gaël Charbau, we were able to develop and deepen the project, notably with the production of a video and an in-situ wall drawing.
Born in 1981 in Hokkaido, Japan, Keita Mori lives and works in Paris. After studying at the Tama University of Art, he completed a Master’s degree at the University of Paris VIII and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris under the sponsorship of the Government of Japan – Agency for Cultural Affairs. Since 2011, he has been pursuing his systemic artistic activities through the “Bug report” series of drawings, which assumes the l as the origin of the line, the textile as a generator of events. In 2017, he presented a solo exhibition on the occasion of the opening of Drawing Lab Paris, an art center dedicated to contemporary drawing; in the same year, he was the first winner of the “Matsutani Prize” created by the SHOEN endowment fund.
He has taken part in numerous exhibitions, including Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, 2015; Galerie Catherine Putman (production support: CNAP), 2017; National Art Center Tokyo, 2018; Takamatsu Art Museum, 2019; Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 2020; and others. His works are part of several private and public collections, including “1 immeuble, 1 œuvre”, Massy; FRAC PACA, Marseille; Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA, Bordeaux.
