Vanessa Enriquez
Born December 4, 1973 in Mexico City, Mexico
Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
The opportunity to exhibit my work at Drawing LAB will enable me to reach a wider audience and engage them in a new experience of drawing. Ideally, among this new audience will be a few art critics, curators and collectors with a particular interest in the field, who will be able to help me advance my practice through their criticism, encouragement and financial support. Perhaps this exhibition will give my work the visibility it needs to be represented in a gallery.
Vanessa Enríquez earned a BA in Graphic Design in 1998 from Universidad Iberoamericana and an MFA in Graphic Design in 2000 from Yale University School of Art, where she was awarded the Bradbury Thompson Memorial Prize. She was elected SNCA Fellow in 2017 by the Mexican National Fund for Culture and the Arts to pursue a research and practice project in the field of expanded drawing. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in museums, galleries and unconventional spaces in Germany, Mexico, the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy, among others. Most recently, she had a solo presentation in 2019 at MACQ, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Querétaro, Mexico, and was selected as an honorable mention at the XIX Tamayo Biennial in 2020 at MACO, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Oaxaca. Enriquez was artist-in-residence at the BANFF Center in 2015, where she received the Benediktson Fellowship Fund for International Artists.
