Press release

Pascal Neveux, Director of Frac Picardie, and Emmanuel-Alain Raynal, founder of Miyu, who with his associate Pierre Baussaron launched Galerie Miyu, the world’s first gallery dedicated to the arts and techniques of animation, announce an ambitious partnership, born of a shared desire to contribute to the influence of animation on the contemporary art scene.

In spring 2023, this partnership will give rise to the creation of a residency designed to support artists from the contemporary scene who wish to produce a work involving animation techniques.
The residency will host major artists from the international contemporary scene in one of Miyu’s five animation studios (Paris, Angoulême, Valence, Marseille and Brussels). It’s an opportunity for Miyu to put its know-how to work for artists wishing to use these techniques.

Two artists have been chosen for this first edition. First Christine Rebet, who will develop and produce her cartoon installation The Fall, an exploration of Jamaican folklore. The work will be completed and presented in 2024, notably at the Fondation Cartier.

By 2025, Abdelkader Benchamma will also have completed a short digital animation film entitled Grotte céleste, a tale halfway between artist’s book, storyboard and comic strip, which examines essential human themes such as time and memory.

The work resulting from this residency will be exhibited at the Frac Picardie in Amiens and at the Miyu gallery at 101 rue du Temple in the Marais district of Paris.
