Lamarche & Ovize: a sensitive dialogue between art, nature and gastronomy
Since 2006, artist duo Lamarche & Ovize have been developing a hybrid practice in which drawing plays a central role. Nourished by references to comics, classical painting and the decorative arts, their sketchbooks become the matrixes of teeming environments, where the line extends into volume, installation, photography or sculpture. Their work, conceived as a continuous flow, questions the links between art, craft and everyday life.
For this new exhibition, Florentine and Alexandre Lamarche-Ovize immersed themselves in the world of the Mirazur gourmet restaurant in Menton, a visionary place created by three-starred chef Mauro Colagreco, where nature guides every culinary gesture. This collaboration gave rise to a series of works inspired by natural cycles, the seasons, biodynamic gardens, and their transposition to the plate.
The exhibition features extracts from the artists’ and cooks’ notebooks, which have become a veritable bank of shapes and motifs. The sun, moon and water – recurring elements in their work – rub shoulders with ecological references taken from the writings ofÉlisée Reclus, libertarian geographer and precursor of environmental thought.
The experience extends into the exhibition space itself, where artists transpose the oyas – traditional irrigation pottery – used in the Mirazur gardens. An olfactory dimension completes this immersion, thanks to collaboration with independent perfumer Olivier Maure and scent designer Alain Joncheray.
Between nature and culture, art and craft, Lamarche & Ovize offer a poetic and committed vision of a world that needs to be re-enchanted.
