Pop-up Blazers / Blasons

Temporarily transformed into a pop-up from October 2 to 5, 2025, Drawing Lab welcomes BLAZERS/BLASONS which will be presenting its entire collection.

This project currently includes 307 artist’s crests and bibs.

Since 2016, BLAZERS/BLASONS has invited artists to design a coat of arms or bib made using machine embroidery.

This is a carte blanche or an invitation to join a thematic collection.

As part of a global, long-term approach,Blazers/Blasons considers creation in the broadest sense of the term:where the boundarybetween yesterdayandtodaydisappears. In this way, we bring together and consolidate our know-how in a close-knit relationshipbetweencontemporary art, design, illustration, craftsmanship, fashion… and all the ramifications that will emerge over time, through encounters and potential.

By bringingtheauxiliary science of history – heraldry–back into the realm of art, La Valise highlights the idea that the coatofarms is not closed,doesnot belong to anyone, and is not frozen in time.It is a medium, a conceptual image above all. And as Michel Pastoureau* reminds us, coats of arms act as “social codes, whose purpose is communication, revealing two aspects of those who use them:identityand personality”. If the question of identity isparticularlyfragile today, Blazers/Blasons opens up a poetic and social pathbysubjecting it to the diverse fields of contemporary creation.

This project is led by Le Collectif La Valise, currently made up of artists/publishers Samia Oussadit and Pascal Leroux. It is accompanied by artist and graphic designer Fanette Mellier.
