Nohemí Pérez
Pérez’s multidisciplinary practice focuses on the cohabitation between human beings and their environment, highlighting a constant friction between man and nature, a relationship of conflict and tension around notions of power, exploitation and wealth.
Drawing on architecture, cinema and sociology, the artist proposes a rereading of the territory of Catatumbo, a region on the border between Colombia and Vénezuéla, with a highly distinctive natural and socio-cultural ecosystem. From the colonial conquest to the present day, Catatumbo has been the scene of multiple conflicts that have evolved to form a complex web of anachronistic situations characteristic of contemporary Latin America.
Illegal armed groups, indigenous tribes, evangelical missionaries, multinational mining companies and drug traffickers coexist in this jungle region.
