Designer, visual artist and scenographer Pierre Charpin was born in 1962 and lives and works in Paris and Ivry-sur-Seine. He graduated in visual art in 1984. Since 1990, he has devoted himself to furniture and object design, while pursuing his artistic practice.

He collaborates with internationally renowned designers such as Alessi, Arita 16/16, Abet Laminati, Cristallerie Saint-Louis, Danese, Hay, Hermès, Ligne Roset, Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, Träffa Träffa, Tectona, Tornitore Matto, Venini, The Wrong Shop, Zanotta.

At the same time, his work is presented in galleries. In 1998, with the collection “Una monstra di mobili”, Post Design Gallery in Milan. In 2002, he created the “Stands” series, followed by “Oggetti lenti” in 2005 for Design Gallery Milano. In 2021, the “Prints” exhibition and in 2023 “Le marteau et le pinceau” at the Yvon et Eve Lambert bookshop in Paris. In 2022, “Struttura & some drawings” at the Giorgio Mastinu gallery in Venice. In 2024, the Giorgio Mastinu gallery (Venice) presents the exhibition, “Legni”. In 2025, the Yvon Lambert gallery presents the exhibition “Parole Parole Parole”.

Since 2005, Galerie kreo (Paris) has been publishing limited editions of his pieces and holding several solo exhibitions.

His creations have been the subject of several publications. In 2009, Birkhauser and the MUDAC published Entre les vases. In 2014, JRP Ringier published his first monograph: Pierre Charpin. In 2022, B42 édition and the Villa Noailles publish : Pierre Charpin avec le dessin. In 2025 La fabrique de Pierre Charpin published by B42 in the Prisme collection.

Pierre Charpin is also a scenographer. In 2010: “Mobiboom” at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The same year, he designed the 3rd version of the Design Museum at the Milan Triennale, “Quali cose siamo”, curated by Alessandro Mendini. In 2017: “Oh Couleurs!” at the Musée des arts décoratifs et du design in Bordeaux. In 2024: he designed the scenography for the exhibition “Alessandro Mendini, io sono un drago”, co-produced by the Milan Triennale and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.

Pierre Charpin has received numerous awards for his work: in 2012, he was selected by the French Institute of Japan to carry out a residency at Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto (Japan). In 2017, he was voted Designer of the Year by the Maison & Objet trade show in Paris. In 2004, he won the competition to design the Eau de Paris decanter. In 2019, he won the competition organized by Platform 10 and Tectona to design a bench for museum spaces: MUDAC and Photo Elysée in Lausanne (Switzerland).
